Bharatanatyam is a classical Indian dance that originated in the state of Tamilnadu as a temple dance tradition about 2000 years ago and is perhaps the most advanced and evolved dance form of all the classical Indian dance forms. Bharatanatyam combines the dramatic art of story-telling with dynamic and rhythmic, pure dance movements. The dancer is a 3-dimensional mandala, symbolizing life through abstract movements – such as the Ripu flower blooming at sunrise or the elephant-headed deity Ganesha, the Remover of Obstacles, patron of arts and representation of wisdom. Bharatanatyam performances will leave you awestruck and invigorated through the powerful essence the artform evokes.
